UIC delivered a statement win on New Year’s Day. Junior guard Jordan Mason sparked the Flames off the bench with a team-high 17 points, and junior guard Javon Jackson iced the game with 9 of 10 free throws in the final six minutes, propelling UIC to a 74-70 upset over previously unbeaten Drake, ranked fifth in the latest Mid-Major Basketball Top 25 Poll, at Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago.
The Flames (9-4, 2-1 MVC) extended their season-high winning streak to five games, showcasing resilience with double-digit comeback victories in three of their last four contests.
