St. Joseph’s defeated St. Bonaventure 75-64 on Wednesday night in Philadelphia. Coming into the game, St. Joseph’s was ahead of St. Bonaventure by one spot. After this game, the Hawks (18-10, 9-6 A-10) moved to fourth in the conference, and the Bonnies (19-10, 7-9 A-10) moved down to nine. St. Joseph’s is now on pace for a double-bye in the A-10 Tournament, as the Bonnies presumably have a hard chance of receiving a double-bye.
For St. Bonaventure, Melvin Council Jr. led the scoring with 18 points. Lajae Jones added 14, and Noel Brown added 13. For the Hawks, Xzayvier Brown led the scoring with 22. Rasheer Fleming added 19 and Derek Simpson added 11 off the bench.
The Bonnies struggled with rebounding, losing the battle by double digits. St. Joseph’s had 41 rebounds to St. Bonaventure’s 31. Once again, similar to their problems all season, the Bonnies struggled from deep. They only made 2 of 12 3-point attempts.
St. Joseph’s secured a massive win at home, as St. Bonaventure’s season has been diminished by poor rebounding, lackluster shooting and poor defense. Up next, the Bonnies face UMass at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the home finale at the Reilly Center.
