In the second round of the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Tournament, St. Bonaventure beat Duquesne 64-59. The Dukes led 34-25 at halftime, but the Bonnies outscored them by 14 in the second half to seal a comeback win.
With 13:35 left in the second half, Duquesne was up 45-32, giving them a 90.1% chance to win, according to ESPN. The Bonnies continued to chip away throughout the rest of the half, and capped it off with a 13-1 run in the last 4:16 of the game.
LaJae Jones and Melvin Council Jr. both scored 18 points, being the only Bonnies in double figures. Council Jr. also had four steals and iced the game for Bonaventure. Jones had three steals of his own to go along with eight rebounds.
Maximus Edwards led Duquesne in scoring off the bench with 18. Matus Hronsky added 11, and Tre Dinkins added 10.
This was an extremely impressive Bonnies victory and one of their best wins of the season. Head coach Mark Schmidt and his players have pushed a never-give-up, never-say-die attitude all season, which came to fruition today.
St. Bonaventure will take on the top-seeded VCU at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
