INDIANAPOLIS – Oakland is dancing again.
The top-seeded Golden Grizzlies (23-11) defeated sixth-seeded Milwaukee (20-15), 83-76, in the Horizon League Championship title game on Tuesday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum to earn their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2011.
It’s Oakland’s fourth Division I tournament berth and first as a member of the Horizon League.
Horizon League Player of the Year Trey Townsend played a key role in the team’s championship run. Milwaukee didn’t have any answers for Townsend, who shot 12 of 22 from the floor with a career-high 38 points. He tallied a double-double, adding 11 rebounds for Oakland.
Chris Conway also tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Jack Gohlke sank five 3-pointers for 15 points.
The Golden Grizzlies now will wait for Selection Sunday to see who they will play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
