The final position group for Central Michigan ahead of the 2024 season consists of one transfer and one returner at the center position. Both players have the opportunity to take hold of the starting spot and a leadership role for the Chippewas. The center position could be a vital group for CMU, who has reloaded its roster with transfers in year four under coach Tony Barbee.
Below is a look at the centers on this year’s roster. Make sure to also read about the Central Michigan guards and forwards in our other stories as part of this three-part series.
Centers
Armani Mighty, 6-10, Junior
Mighty joins the Chippewas after two seasons at Boston College, where he appeared in 51 games. The junior averaged 0.8 points per game and 1.2 rebounds in 2023 for the Eagles. He provides CMU with valuable game experience and is the only player on the roster who has played in a power conference. Mighty will be looking for a jump in production this season in hopes of carving out a big role on his new team.
Hunter Harding, 7-0, Sophomore
The sophomore saw action in 22 games last season, including seven starts for the Chippewas. Harding averaged 1.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in 2023. He could be in line for a large role at the five spot this upcoming season after CMU lost several contributors via the transfer portal. Harding could be the favorite to earn starter minutes, but a battle between the 7-footer and Mighty for the top spot will likely take place.
Barbee may experiment with some small ball rotations this season due to the lack of depth at center, as he did at points last year. Possible small ball centers the Chippewas could use in 2024 include transfers Mohammad Habhab, Ugnius Jarusevicius, and Bryan Ndjonga.
