A new era has officially begun for Lipscomb men’s basketball, as former Division II Trevecca Nazarene University head coach Kevin Carroll will take over for Lennie Acuff, the school announced.
“I am honored and extremely humbled to have the opportunity to lead such a storied program as Lipscomb Basketball,” Carroll said in a release. “My staff and I will work tirelessly to maintain the standard that everyone has come to expect while shining a light at one of the top Christian universities in the country.”
Carroll, who previously spent four seasons as an assistant under Acuff, returns to Lipscomb after leading Trevecca to a 35-23 record over two seasons. Before his arrival, the Division II program had struggled to win more than six games annually in recent years.
In addition to Trevecca, Carroll served as head coach at Maryville University–St. Louis from 2010-17, guiding the Saints to their first 20-win season in 35 years.
Now, Carroll begins the next chapter of his head coaching journey, aiming to quickly build a roster following one of the Bisons’ best seasons — one that ended with an NCAA Tournament appearance.
With much of last year’s core departing, the next few weeks will determine how Lipscomb fares in the ASUN next season.
Still, with Carroll at the helm — a coach who has proven he can win at every stop — Lipscomb has a steady hand to lead the program forward.
