Ohio’s injury mug may plague season

Lightning has struck twice for the Ohio University’s men’s basketball team, with two of the team’s stars out for an unspecified amount of time.

Ohio’s points-per-game leader AJ Clayton is out indefinitely, and junior Aidan Hadaway is likely out for the season after an ankle injury against Akron.

Head coach Jeff Boals didn’t give an update when asked about a timeline for Clayton’s return this season after Tuesday’s loss.

Clayton last played on Jan. 21 against Eastern Michigan, only mustering up 11 minutes of floor time before being taken out of the game.

Clayton and Hadaway rank first and second for the Bobcats in rebounding, with 5.9 rebounds and 5.7 rebounds per game, respectively.

The lack of rebounding has impacted Ohio, losing the rebounding battle against EMU (33-24), Kent State (46-28) and Toledo (40-33). Ohio has gone 1-2 in this stretch.

Boals believes the biggest concern with the rebounding struggles is allowing offensive rebounds, including giving up 22 offensive rebounds to Kent State on Jan. 24.

Ohio has fallen to fourth in the MAC, with the hope Clayton comes back soon. The Bobcats will look to make a statement without their two stars against Miami (OH) at 3:30 p.m. EST Saturday on ESPN+.
