Mid-Major Basketball: Top 25 Poll

Gonzaga has reclaimed the top spot in the latest Mid-Major Basketball Top 25 Poll, even after a narrow one-point overtime loss to fourth-ranked Kentucky.

The Zags demonstrated their championship potential in the thriller, building an 18-point lead and maintaining control for much of regulation. However, a 16-2 second-half run by Kentucky, fueled by Gonzaga’s missed opportunities and the Wildcats’ dominance in the paint, shifted the momentum. Despite the loss, Gonzaga proved its national championship potential.

While college football follows a clear structure with automatic-qualifying and non-qualifying conferences for the College Football Playoff, the term “mid-major” in basketball is more subjective. For clarity and consistency, MidMajorBasketball.com defines mid-majors as teams from conferences outside the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and Big East.
