Game of the Week: Louisiana Tech vs. Memphis

Memphis will host Louisiana Tech in the Mid-Major Basketball Game of the Week, tipping off at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday at FedExForum, with live coverage on ESPN+. This matchup spotlights two of the season’s top-performing mid-major programs. Memphis enters the game as the newly crowned No. 1 in the Mid-Major Basketball Top 25 Poll, adding extra intrigue to this showdown.

Memphis (6-1) is coming off an impressive week highlighted by victories over UConn and Michigan State, along with a hard-fought loss to Auburn.

Despite navigating a challenging non-conference schedule, the Tigers have consistently risen to the occasion, solidifying their status as one of the nation’s top teams.

Sophomore guard PJ Haggerty has been the Tigers’ best player this season. He is averaging a team-high 22.1 points per game on 49% shooting, including 43.5% from 3. He also leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game and ranks second in assists (3.0) and steals (1.4) per contest.

Starting guards Tyrese Hunter (16.1 ppg) and Colby Rogers (12.6 ppg) also average in double figures. They are the Tigers’ top 3-point shooters, with Hunter shooting 52.4% and Rogers at 45.7% from beyond the arc. 

Dain Dainja has provided a spark off the bench, averaging 10.9 points per game. As a team, the Tigers are averaging 81.6 points per game on 48.8% shooting, including 46.9% from 3.

Louisiana Tech

Louisiana Tech (7-1) started the season with a seven-game winning streak before suffering a disappointing three-point loss to Southern University on Sunday. In the contest, the Bulldogs committed a season-high 17 turnovers.

The Bulldogs feature a relatively balanced offensive, with six players averaging at least 8.4 points per game. Daniel Batcho is the go-to option for the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-11 senior forward is averaging 20.1 points and 6.1 rebounds in 27 minutes per game.

Guards Amaree Abram (14.8 ppg) and Kaden Cooper (11.9 ppg) also average in double figures. Cooper is the team’s top rebounder, averaging 7.9 boards per game.

As a team, the Bulldogs are averaging 81 points per game on 49.2% from the field, including 34.6% from 3.
